But this is what I do!

This post has moved to my new website, you can find it here:

  1. My wife and I are building our second house. Both of us are architects, so concessions and compromise ARE the design process. I think the this process has resulted in a better house. Rather than having a design vision focused on the architecture, our "design vision" was the family, the architecture was just there to support that program.

I was standing on the street in front of the construction site when a neighbor rode up on a bicycle and asked. "What's this going to be?"
I took it as a compliment.

  2. I always wondered how two architects could work on their house together...sounds like you found a way to make it work. I have to remind myself that my wife is entitled to have our home reflect her tastes as well as mine and this isn't my own personal laboratory.

"What's this going to be?" - Classic! I hope you will share some pictures.

    Thanks for your comment.

  4. Love the photos, that is looking really great. I particularly like the staggered hardi planks. I saw a duplex project down in Austin that did the same thing (but on the entire building) and they choose about four complimentary colors for each different sized board. It was great and I have been kicking myself ever since for not tagging the project because now I can't find it!

I would like to keep an eye on your project - can I go to your blog and find it there on an on-going basis?
